4 Roads to Good Health
Food, Fitness, Finance, and Fun
Food, Fitness, Finance, and Fun represent the “4 Roads to Good Health” included in the title above. Each of these factors plays an important role for an individual pursuing the 100 year old milestone. The benefits of Food, Fitness, Finance, and Fun are somewhat obvious on an individual basis. However, the health significance these four factors have when packaged together is huge.
Focusing on one or just two of the health factors while at the same time slipping in one or two others doesn’t normally work well. Effort should be balanced.
They are all part of a cycle. Think about it . . .
The better quality of food a person consumes the more fit they will be! Toss a bit of exercise into the equation means you will look and feel better. Looking good and feeling good helps confidence which increases a person’s opportunities for a better job, which in turn helps an individual’s financial situation.
Even small improvements in the areas of Food, Fitness, and Finance almost always add up to more Fun and a healthier disposition. Keeping it simple is key.
Some examples: Have you ever observed high income people over-working, eating poorly, getting almost no exercise? Financially secure . . . probably. Health risk . . . for sure. Having fun . . . I doubt it. The opposite situation isn’t any better, being flat broke. In this situation it is difficult to eat well, focus on fitness, or have much fun at all.
What about the diet and workout fanatic who is obsessed with food and fitness to the extent the effort actually backfires? Great physical shape and appearance . . . probably. Good health . . . hard to say, could be hyper and a candidate for medical problems. As for fun . . . probably doesn’t ever relax enough to experience it.
Add balance to equation . . .
An individual who attains at least average status in each of these four categories will have a more fulfilling life than the person who is deficient in one or two categories. Reach age 100? Maybe not, but they will likely get a lot closer to 100 than the average person.
Of course, there are many other examples of individual life profiles using the 4F factors, some better than others. My point is you do not have to knock yourself out to have better than average health but you do need to pay attention to the bigger picture, and have a plan. The best combination is a balance between all four health factors with none being real low.
A few simple tips for improving the “4 Roads to Good Health” are as follows:
- Food - Eat sensibly. Don’t overcomplicate the process, it doesn’t work.
- Fitness - Look for reasons within your day to stand or walk more. Sit less.
- Finance - You don’t need to be rich, just in control.
- Fun - If you put some effort into eating better food, increasing activity and living within your means life will be more fun, I guarantee it. A person shouldn’t have to try to have fun, it should come naturally.
